I’ve been in San Diego since 1996 by way of Texas & Mississippi previously. Father Air Force, Grandfather Army, Uncles Navy. Started Judo & Jiu-Jitsu in 1998 in Pacific Beach, CA with Rodrigo Medeiros/Carlson Gracie. Who knew San Diego would become such a Jiu-Jitsu Mecca. I was fortunate to be exposed to some of the greats in the late 90’s…Fabio Santos, Dean Lister (City Boxing at the time). I did a year with Marc Laimon in Vegas at Cobra Kai Jiu-Jitsu. More recently, Victory MMA & 10th Planet.
Being in San Diego, we also have rich Military history here. Navy Seals on Coronado, Top Gun at Miramar (now in NV), & our beloved Marines at Camp Pendleton. Jiu-Jitsu & Judo lead me to a lot of great friendships within the Navy & Marines & is what started my firearms training journey. Some of my favorite firearm training teams & instructors are TacHyve, Sheepdog Response, WPS, Fieldcraft Survival, Bill Desy of CCWUSA, & “That Norm guy.”
Gun fights are never static, so I place a lot of emphasis on dynamic movement drills once you have demonstrated competency in safe gun handling. Safe gun handling, marksmanship, & mindset have to all come together in order to become a complete shooter.
I’m passionate about mentoring & leadership, but always consider myself a forever student. I still love attending classes to stay sharp & current.
I believe a champion is made in the heart & mind first. You have to develop fearlessness, resiliency, and humbleness. If you back it up along the way with consistency & hard work, success will inevitably be a byproduct. What you will notice the most in our classes is our high level attention to safety, organization, up to date shooting techniques, & our overall professionalism.
Whether you are a first time shooter, an experienced civilian, or a top duty professional, I believe practicing & mastering the fundamentals is the universal key to success….And of course, having fun along the way. I look forward to seeing you in one of my classes!
